Dear Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury sufferer,

I have to get something off my chest. You could be returning to sport much faster than you thought, even up too 300% faster!

Anterior cruciate ligament rehabilitation is nowhere near as hard as everyone makes it out to be. You just have to know what to do and when.

The problem with these sorts of injuries
is trying to understand and remember
everything that your physiotherapist or
doctor has told you or advised you to do.

There are many reasons for this, but some of these are:

  • Doctors or orthopaedic surgeons do no have the time to explain lengthy rehabilitation programs
  • Physiotherapists often only "drip-feed" you the information about your injury and the stage of your recovery
  • Most doctors and physiotherapists do not have a clearly defined information pack about the surgery or rehabilitation recommendations
  • Physiotherapists have not had access to an e-book such as this in the past
  • Physiotherapists want to keep you coming back to their practice as much as possible to keep the $$$ coming in
  • Often doctors do not get involved in the rehabilitation and there may be poor communication between the doctor and therapist about who has discussed what with the patient

Another problem is that people today are too busy to visit a physiotherapist 3 times a week. They want to know what they need to do so that they can schedule it to a time that suits them.

Everyone with ACL injuries is frustated because...

  • They don't understand the anatomy behind their injury
  • They have not been told about the operation and what to expect by their doctor
  • They don't have the time to visit the physio 3 times per week
  • They don't have private health insurance and therefore have to pay $50-$60 every time they visit their physiotherapist
  • They want to get back to the sport they love ASAP
  • Orthopaedic surgeon and physiotherapy costs are increasing
  • The staiblity in their knee has been severely reduced affecting all aspects of their daily life

When I first worked in private practice, I saw these frustrations first hand. It was nice to be able to offer my patients a complete information package about what they had done and how to fix it.

Wellness & Lifestyles started to develop their own e-books which we could offer to clients with a number of conditions or injuries. This was great and the clients loved it. It is frustrating when you know you could provide complete advice but you just can't get it in to a 20-40 minute physiotherapy session. What are your frustrations?

  • Are you sick and tired of your knee being painful and unstable?
  • Have you tried many physiotherapists but they have not delivered or let you down?
  • Do you feel that there is a better, more efficient way to educate yourself about your injury?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, don't worry because...

It's all about to change for you

If you'd like to know how you can start improving your pain while increasing your range of movement in your knee... then this is going to be one of the most important messages you'll ever read.

Here's why:

My name is Nick and I am a physiotherapist and the founder of W&L Education and W&L services. Up until recently, I was working in private practice as a physiotherapist educating my clients on all that I had learnt about injuries and how to rehabilitate them. Then I did my own injury. I came off my bike while in Vietnam and did my ACL...

Let me tell you my story...

I had injured my knee, just like you. I am a registered physiotherapist and Director of Wellness & Lifestyles Australia (W&L), a business that I developed with my wife Nikki that specialises in mobile allied health services to clients and healthcare facilities across Australia.

Since November 1998 when I completed my Bachelor of Applied Science in Physiotherapy from the University of South Australia, I worked in a variety of health care settings around the world including five different countries. This taught me many things, but I always knew that I wanted to help people in whatever work I chose to do.

My work overseas has included working for the National Health Services (NHS) throughout Great Britain in both inpatient and outpatient settings; owning and operating a private massage and rehabilitation business in Kitzbuhel, Austria over two winter ski seasons; consultancy physiotherapy work in public and private facilities in Vancouver and Banff, Canada, and private physiotherapy services provided to Ed Hommer, a double below knee amputee, during a summit attempt of Mt Everest in 2001 in Tibet.

Mount Everest

Following five years overseas, I returned to Australia and commenced work for Sportsmed SA in both inpatient and outpatient settings for a period of approximately eight months. I learnt very quickly that to be able to impact more people's lives, I needed to get information out there and accessible to as many people as possible.

I thought I knew what I had done to my knee straight away but was not positive. Being on the road I did not have all my text books and therapy notes that I would have liked - so I went online. To my surprise there was very little, so when I came back to Australia, I decided to compile all my notes and information on different injuries/operations and conditions and attempt to put them into an easy to understand format and layout for everyone in the English speaking world to benefit from (hopefully with the aim to reduce their pain, improve their mobility and range of movement and ultimately improve their quliaty of life).

My services company has grown to a company with over 130 therapists and staff with the full scope of allied health services including physiotherapy, podiatry, speech pathology, occupational therapy, aromatherapy, naturopathy, massage, dietetics, audiology and educational training.

W&L is a market leader in the provision of mobile allied health services to facilities in Australia.

W&L is an accredited provider of allied health services to the Southern Adelaide Health Service, the Transition Care Program, and Disability SA. We have been finalists in the Telstra Business Awards in 2008, 2009, in inBusiness Magazine's Fast Movers for 2007, 2008 and 2009 and recently achieved the BRW's Fastest 100 list for 2009. In 2010, I was also awarded the Ernst & Young's Young Entrepreneur of the Year for the Central Region.

One of the things I found from being on the road was that there was very little information on how to rehabilitate yourself from injuries or operations available online. So my team and I quickly got together and brainstormed ideas on how to help more people deal with their pain and improve their mobility. After tirelessly sitting in the lab for 6 months, we have put together what we believe is the most complete solution to ACL rehabilitation available today. Introducing our new W&L ACL e-book...

"It is a good, overall, concise information booklet and would provide a useful adjunct in the treatment of these injuries."

I strongly endorse W&L's initiative to provide this information for the benefit of patients...

Dr. Clarrie Lang, Surgeon

It's definitely going to be more than helpful to any patient that has just undergone a full knee reconstruction.

The booklet could have saved me hundreds of $$$ in physiotherapy appointments. Every thing I was advised (including all of the strengthening moves) by my physio, were in the booklet you have supplied me (and then some). It was very easy to understand, and with relation to the stretches, the pictured guides specifically outline the correct motions required by the knee in order to carry out the rehabilitation without any uncertainty. They were simplified enough to understand, while eleviating any doubt as to whether they are being carried out properly.

I hope that it becomes a standard for all knee reconstruction patients. I hated the hand-drawn stretches and guidelines I was given by my physio. He was great, but once I was home alone, trying to decipher exactly the range of movement you are allowed during your stretches became problematic. A guideline like this would speed up my recovery process by a couple of months...
